ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings come from a love of people, music, nature and color.
Turning those passions into paintings is what I was born to do. Placing
contrasting colors next to each other, light against dark, large shapes
next to small shapes and having the finished painting connect with other
people is why I paint.
Many of my paintings are based on the statement of artist Paul Klee,
“make the invisible visible." Other paintings are a translation of what
I have seen and an attempt to communicate an insight. They are never
exact replication of life.
What am I trying to portray? The energy in musicians, the rhythm in
nature, or camaraderie of the people who inhabit my paintings. Does the
painting bring life light and energy into the room? Making paintings
that answer these questions is deeply satisfying.
